I recently experimented with Hyper-V 2012 and found there was no easy way to disable complex passwords, so after searching the net for a while I came across a nice solution that didn\u2019t involve joining and leaving domains and interfering with group policy.\u00a0 Here it is –
\nFirst step is to insert a USB stick and check which drive letter it is (D: in my case), then we can export our current policy:<\/p>\n

secedit \/export \/cfg D:\\new.cfg<\/p>\n

Remove the USB stick and edit the file on another PC.\u00a0 We are interested in\u00a0PasswordComplexity<\/strong>value within the\u00a0[System Access]<\/strong>\u00a0section.<\/p>\n

[System Access]\r\nMinimumPasswordAge = 0\r\nMaximumPasswordAge = 39\r\nMinimumPasswordLength = 0\r\nPasswordComplexity = 1\r\nPasswordHistorySize = 0\r\n...<\/pre>\nValue should be changed to\u00a00<\/strong>\u00a0in order to disable complexity check.<\/p>\n
Save the file back, insert it back in to the Hyper-V server and import the configuration:<\/p>\n
secedit \/configure \/db C:\\Windows\\security\\new.sdb \/cfg D:\\new.cfg \/areas SECURITYPOLICY<\/pre>\nYou can now add users with out complex passwords.<\/p>\n
